Hi-Tec was founded in 1974 by Frank van Wezel in the aptly named village of Shoeburyness in England. Frank's love for sports led him to create an innovative, lightweight, and instantly comfortable squash shoe. In 1978, Hi-Tec was established in the United States with the introduction of the world's first lightweight hiking shoe, the Sierra Sneaker, a mountain sports shoe.
The Hi-Tec Silver Shadow was launched in 1981 to conquer the running category; that year, 23% of the runners in the London Marathon wore a pair of Hi-Tec Silver Shadow shoes. The Silver Shadow quickly established itself as the best-selling running shoe in Great Britain because there simply was no better universal training shoe on the market. The brand gained even more recognition afterwards. In 1990, Nelson Mandela was released from prison in South Africa while wearing a pair of Hi-Tec sneakers. Hi-Tec also became the official shoe of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in 1995.
In 2017, Hi-Tec launched the premium HTS74 line, celebrating the brand's heritage and combining original silhouettes with modern technology. A team of young talent was brought together to relaunch the brand through HTS74; a premium sneaker line with recognition from Hi-Tec. By looking back into the archives, the talented team has managed to create the perfect balance between functional sports shoes and modern fashion sneakers. The HTS74 collection is a two-dimensional collection, combining 43 years of performance technology experience with the iconic fantastic upper patterns from the 80s and 90s of the original brand.
