FILA
FILA was founded in 1911 in the small village of Biella, Italy. Although the brand is now mainly known for its sneakers and sportswear, FILA started as a textile manufacturer for the local trade. After a few years, the brand began to focus on the international market and in 1973, FILA started producing sportswear. The clothing became particularly popular among tennis players and reached its peak in the 1980s and 1990s. The sportswear brand received a boost when tennis player Björn Borg started wearing clothing with the recognizable 'F' logo.
Grant Hill
FILA also made clothing and shoes suitable for other sports. In 1994, the brand collaborated with basketball player Grant Hill after he was selected to play for Detroit. On the court, he wore FILA shoes and even different variations of his own model, the Grant Hill, were designed. The model became very popular among many sneaker enthusiasts and the Grant Hill still evokes nostalgic feelings.
Hip-hop and R&B
In the 1980s and 1990s, FILA also became popular among hip-hop and R&B artists. In the 1980s, tracksuits, including FILA tracksuits, were first worn as casual outfits. This trend was reinforced by the music videos of artists like LL Cool J and Run DMC. The Grant Hill sneakers immediately gained popularity on the West Coast when Tupac Shakur wore a pair to promote his new album 'All Eyez On Me'. This album featured some of Tupac's biggest hits, including 'California Love'.

Just a few years ago, FILA changed its strategy by re-releasing some classic models. The comeback of the popular Disruptor was a huge success and perfectly aligned with the dad shoe trend.
