The company J.W. Foster, which would later become Reebok, was first founded in 1958 by Joseph William Foster in the city of Bolton in the United Kingdom. In 1958, Joe and Jeff Foster founded the companion company Reebok. The name refers to the grey rhebok, a type of antelope. Young Joe Foster came up with this name after encountering it in a South African dictionary that he had won.
